Propellerhead Software heeft de PX7 FM Synthesizer gelanceerd, een Rack Extension voor Reason. De inspiratiebron voor deze Rack Extension plug-in is de digitale Yamaha DX7 FM synthesizer uit de jaren tachtig. Net als de Yamaha DX7 werkt de PX7 met zes operators. Deze kunnen op verschillende manieren aan elkaar worden geschakeld via 32 algoritmes.
Macro controls
FM synthese is niet de meest gemakkelijke manier om geluiden te maken met een synthesizer. De PX7 heeft zogenaamde macro controls waarmee een patch snel naar eigen hand kan worden gezet.
DX7 Patch Converter
Daarnaast heeft Propellerhead voor de PX7 een heel coole feature bedacht. Alle patches voor de Yamaha DX7 kunnen online worden vertaald naar een patch voor de PX7. Dit werkt met behulp van de DX7 – PX7 Patch Converter op de website van Propellerhead. Omdat de Yamaha DX7 al sinds halverwege jaren tachtig bestaat, zijn er duizenden patches beschikbaar voor deze synthesizer. Deze patches kun je overal op internet vinden door even te Googelen. Ook vind je natuurlijk de nodige tips voor het vinden van de patches van gebruikers op het forum van Propellerhead Software.
Geen filter en effecten
De PX7 heeft een LFO, maar geen filters en effecten. Deze zul je dus zelf toe moeten voegen, maar dat hoeft geen probleem te zijn omdat je de filters van de andere synthesizers kunt aansluiten, bijvoorbeeld die van Thor. Ook kun je een van de filters of effecten gebruiken die als Rack Extension beschikbaar zijn.

No filter and effects
The PX7 has an LFO, but no build-in filters or effects. You will have to add them yourself, but that should not be a problem because in Reason you can use the filters of other synthesizers, for example Thor’s. You can also use one the Rack Extensions for filters and effects.
