De gitaarsynthesizer Spicy Guitar wordt voortaan gratis aangeboden door Keolab. Een tijdje geleden was er nog een “betaal wat je wil”-actie voor deze VST-plugin, maar nu heeft de softwaremaker helaas zijn activiteiten moeten stopzetten. Dit meldt forumlid pheeleep op KVR. Het gratis aanbod is zeer genereus, zeker gezien het feit dat de plugin aanvankelijk voor €150 werd verkocht.
Spicy Guitar is een emulatie van negen akoestische gitaren. Het bespelen van Spicy Guitar werkt met het midi-keyboard. Je kunt enkele noten spelen of akkoorden. Bij het spelen van akkoorden op het midi-keyboard zoekt het programma het bijbehorende gitaarakkoord in zijn akkoordenbibliotheek en speelt het af.
De gitaren in Spicy Guitar zijn gemodelleerd, dus niet gesampled zoals ook wel veel gebeurt. Het nadeel van de modeltechniek is dat de software veel van de processor kan vergen.

The free availability of Spicy Guitar is really generous. The plugin once was sold for €150.
Spicy Guitar is a simulation of nine acoustic guitars. It lets you play solos, rhythm and chords.
The guitars are physically modelled, not sampled. A disadvantage of this modelling technique is that it can use a lot of cpu on older systems.
Pierre-Andre and Benoit, the owners of Spicy Guitar, have send the following email to their customers:
“It’s been almost one year that Spicy Guitar was launched. We worked really hard to create a software that we believe to be innovative and fun. We also tried to make it a valuable deal for you – with our “pay what you want offer” for example. We hope that it has been a useful tool for your music experiments.
Unfortunately we are sorry to announce you today that we decided to stop this adventure and that we will close shop shortly. As a consequence, there won’t be any update or support for Spicy Guitar anymore.
However, the website will stay open, and you will find there an unlocked and fully functional version of Spicy Guitar.”
