Een paar maanden geleden werd Rack Extensions (RE) geïntroduceerd door Propellerhead Software, het nieuwe plug-in-formaat dat speciaal is ontwikkeld voor Reason. Nu de eerste RE’s zijn verschenen valt op dat deze plug-ins de cpu veel meer belasten dan andere plug-in-formaten. Zo is de cpu-belasting van de RE’s ongeveer tot twee keer zo hoog als vergelijkbare VST-plug-ins.

De mixconsole in Reason ziet er in het begin misschien intimiderend uit, maar biedt veel mogelijkheden. Mattias Häggström Gerdt, productspecialist van Propellerhead Software, geeft in de onderstaande video een aantal goede tips om zang te mixen in Reason. Een aantal van deze tips zijn ook algemeen van toepassing bij het mixen, waaronder de beste tip: verlaag het volume van de andere instrumenten als de zang niet goed doorkomt.The mixing console in Reason looks intimidating at first perhaps, but has great potential. Geforce Software heeft Re-Tron gelanceerd, een nieuwe Rack Extentions plug-in voor Reason 6.5. Re-Tron is een op samples gebaseerde synthesizer met het geluid (en de beperkingen) van de beroemde Mellotron.Geforce Software has launched Re-Tron, a new Rack Extentions plugin for Reason 6.5. Re-Tron is a sample-based synthesizer with the sound (and some limitations) of the famous Mellotron.

De klassieke softwaresynthesizer Korg Polysix is nu beschikbaar als Rack Extention voor Reason. Zo te zien is de interface heel wat beter leesbaar dan die van de zwaar verouderde VST-versie.The classic Korg Polysix software synthesizer is now available as Rack Extention for Reason. The interface is much easier to read than the GUI of the outdated VST version. However, the VST version of this plug-in is very much appreciated by lovers of software synths.

Vorige week is Reason 6.5 gelanceerd. Reason-gebruikers kunnen nu hun instrumenten- en effectenarsenaal aanvullen met externe plug-ins in het nieuwe formaat Rack Extentions dat speciaal voor Reason is ontwikkeld. Zo heeft FXpansion Etch Red uitgebracht.Reason 6.5 was launched last week. Reason users can now use external plug-ins with the introduction of the Rack Extentions format. FXpansion has released the filter effect Etch Red.

Propellerhead is currently working on Reason 6.5, which is expected to be released next summer. The sequencer gets a dedicated plug-in format with Rack Extentions. This is great news for Reason users. Fortunately, the new plug-in format is embraced by external developers, including Rob Papen, Sonic Charge, Korg, GForce, U-he, Softube, iZotope and Peff.
