Avid has released Pro Tools 9. The most important change is the compatibility with third party audio interfaces (Core for Mac and ASIO for Windows). So if you want to use Pro Tools you don’t need to buy an audio interface made by Avid anymore.
Avid has also made some other improvements in Pro Tools. The maximum amount of tracks has increased to 96 or 192 audio tracks, 128 instrument tracks, 512 midi tracks, 256 internal busses en 160 aux tracks. Automatic delay compensation, the multitrack Beat Detective and DigiBase Pro used to be add-ons, but are now included in the standard version.
Further on the collaboration possibilities with other musicians or producers are improved, there is a better support for hardware controllers and the 7.1 surround sound has been updated.
The software version of Pro Tools 9 costs about €600 and requires Windows 7 or Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.2 or higher. You can find more information about this product on the Avid website.
