Singing astronaut on SoundCloud – great recordings from space

The astronaut Chris Hadfield had a massive YouTube hit this week with his version of the song Space Oddity by David Bowie. The video was made in the ISS space station. He also appears to have a large amount of sounds which he recorded in space. He has posted these sounds on SoundCloud. Continue reading

MIDI hardware with Reason 7

One of the most interesting features of Reason 7 is that you can control MIDI hardware now. This is demonstrated by Propellerhead Software in the video below. A nice detail in this demonstration is the appearance of the Dave Smith Instruments Mopho synthesizer. The creator of this monophonic analog synthesizer, Dave Smith, introduced the MIDI system in the early 80′s. Continue reading

Xils V+ announced – Roland VP-330 synthesizer/vocoder emulation

(Nederlands) Xils Lab heeft de Xils V+ synthesizer aangekondigd. De softwaremaker zegt hier op de informatiepagina niets over, mogelijk om problemen met Roland te voorkomen, maar deze VST-plug-in is geïnspireerd op de Roland VP-330 synthesizer/vocoder uit 1979. Deze is volgens Vintage Synth Explorer onder andere gebruikt in de muziek van Underworld en Vangelis. Continue reading

Subtractive arrangement in Ableton Live 9

From a great 8 bar loop to a complete track can be a huge step for some of us. In the video below Music Production Tutorials’s Danny Lewis shows the method of subtractive arrangement to create a complete track with an 8 bar loop. By copying the loop over the entire length of the track, and by taking snippets of clips away you can create the basic structure of a new track.
