De ruimtevaarder Chris Hadfield had afgelopen week een gigantische YouTube-hit met zijn versie van het nummer Space Oddity van David Bowie, waarvan de beelden in het ISS ruimtestation zijn opgenomen. Hij blijkt ook een SoundCloud-account te hebben met een grote hoeveelheid geluiden die hij tijdens zijn verblijf in de ruimte heeft opgenomen.The astronaut Chris Hadfield had a massive YouTube hit this week with his version of the song Space Oddity by David Bowie. The video was made in the ISS space station. He also appears to have a large amount of sounds which he recorded in space. He has posted these sounds on SoundCloud.

Een van de meest in het oog springende features van Reason 7 is dat je nu ook hardware kunt aansturen met midi. De mogelijkheden hiervan worden in de onderstaande video door Propellerhead Software gedemonstreerd. Aardig in dit voorbeeld is het gebruik van de Mopho synthesizer van Dave Smith Instruments. De maker van deze monophone analoge synthesizer, Dave Smith, heeft begin jaren 80 het midi-systeem bedacht en geïntroduceerd. One of the most interesting features of Reason 7 is that you can control MIDI hardware now. This is demonstrated by Propellerhead Software in the video below. A nice detail in this demonstration is the appearance of the Dave Smith Instruments Mopho synthesizer. The creator of this monophonic analog synthesizer, Dave Smith, introduced the MIDI system in the early 80’s.

Xils Lab heeft de Xils V+ synthesizer aangekondigd. De softwaremaker zegt hier op de informatiepagina niets over, mogelijk om problemen met Roland te voorkomen, maar deze VST-plug-in is geïnspireerd op de Roland VP-330 synthesizer/vocoder uit 1979. Deze is volgens Vintage Synth Explorer onder andere gebruikt in de muziek van Underworld en Vangelis.

Als je een geweldige loop hebt van 8 maten, dan kan het nog een hele stap zijn om hiervan een complete track te maken. In de onderstaande video van Music Production Tutorials laat Danny Lewis de methode van subtractief arrangeren uit. Door de loop eerst te kopiëren over de totale lengte van je track en daarna fragmenten van clips weg te halen of te wijzigen kun je de basis van je track vormgeven.From a great 8 bar loop to a complete track can be a huge step for some of us. In the video below Music Production Tutorials’s Danny Lewis shows the method of subtractive arrangement to create a complete track with an 8 bar loop. By copying the loop over the entire length of the track, and by taking snippets of clips away you can create the basic structure of a new track.
